Cognitive Tutor Authoring Tools 2.6 > CTAT Basics > Switching Views

2. Switching Views

2.1. Window Docking

To switch views, select a new tutor type from the Tutor Types combo box. Your view should update to reflect the change.

To modify your current view, add or remove windows, resize the current windows, and/or position the windows differently in or out of the dock. The dock is the layout mechanism that maintains all of the windows (tools) within the larger CTAT window.

After customizing your view, the new view will be saved in your preferences file (brPrefs.xml) for that tutor type so that opening CTAT again shows the same customized view.

You can customize the view for each of CTAT's tutor types.

2.1. Window Docking

Each tool in CTAT can be 'docked' to the main window. Below are descriptions of operations you can perform on any tool window. You can shift the dock 'grid' at any time by clicking and dragging the lines that divide the tool windows.

To add a new window to the dock:

  • Select the new window (one that is unchecked) from the menu Windows > Show Window.

To dock an existing, floating window:

  • Click the dock icon in either the upper-right or upper-left corner of the tool window; or right-click (Windows) the tool name in the upper-left corner of the window and select 'dock'.

To undock an existing, docked window:

  • Click the undock icon in either the upper-right or upper-left corner of the tool window; or right-click (Windows) the tool name in the upper-left corner of the window and select 'undock'.

To move a window in the dock:

  • Click the window's title bar and drag the window across the dock to the desired location. A gray outline will preview the potential location of the dragged window. Release the mouse button when you would like to place the window at the outlined location.

To remove a window from the view:

  • Select the existing window (one that is checked) from the menu Windows > Show Window; alternatively, you can right-click (Windows) or CTRL+Click (Mac) the window title bar and select Close.
